Position Description: Clinical Community Pharmacy Residency with emphasis on Health Disparities & Employer Sites

Position Description: The primary objective of this residency will be to train the resident with the capacity to assist self-insured employers to lower healthcare costs, create a clinical environment at an employer worksite, and provide the highest level of clinical pharmacy services in any setting.  This position is a unique opportunity for a first year resident to receive superior well-rounded residency training with an emphasis on reducing health care costs for regional self-insured employer groups and health disparities.

The resident will be trained to be able to work in any community pharmacy to broaden the scope of services provided through the community pharmacy setting, and learn the business strategies of delivering and assessing self-efficient reimbursable clinical pharmacy services at self-insured employer worksites.

The resident will be working alongside the clinical pharmacy team within three active employer worksites.  They will be engaged in marketing to recruit contractual agreements with other employers within a 100 mile radius of Natchitoches, LA.  In addition, they will be clinically trained within the existing clinical pharmacy programs:  

Diabetes Self Management Education (ADA recognized)

Medication therapy management (MTM)

Dyslipidemia

HIV Antibody Screens

Urine Drug Screening

Insulin Pump Training and Management

Gestational Diabetes

Immunizations

This resident will have ample latitude to explore their interests and further develop their skills as a pharmacy practitioner. This position will also include an appointment with Xavier University, College of Pharmacy.  The primary responsibility would include precepting pharmacy students and the possibilities of didactic lectures. 

Description of institution/organization: Causey’s Pharmacy has historically been a pioneer and leader in the profession of pharmacy.  The facility has grown to be a leader in innovative pharmacy practices dispensing nearly 1,000 prescriptions per day and covering approximately 7,500 square feet.  Services are available Monday through Saturday including the full prescription department, compounding, durable medical equipment supply, infusion services, diabetes and respiratory care centers.  Currently, Causey’s Pharmacy has the expertise of four full-time dispensing pharmacists, 2 clinical pharmacists, 1 registered nurse, 1 licensed practical nurse, 1 respiratory therapist, 1 registered dietician, 1 computer information specialists, and 40 support staff members.
